A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift Essay -- sarcasm irony satire

A Modest purposeA Modest Proposal is everything that a satirical story should be.It includes jeering and irony as Jonathan Swift takes us through a scrollcoaster ride to show us how the slimy be treated miserably. The fibber begins by leading us down a path. He beguilems bona fideand says it is a pity how everywhere you walk in the streets of Dublinyou see the poor people begging people for hand places. He is seeking a solution tohelp the commonwealth. He appears to be a logical, educated someone who makes it clear thathe has been studying this subject for years. He then tells us that he hasa solution to help the babies whose parents butt endnot afford them. We thinkhis paper will be charitable and will actually help the poor as well as thenation. The narrator then does something that I think set the tone for the suspire of the story. He referred to a baby effective born as being dropped fromits dam. Animals are dropped from dams, not humans. Therefore poorpeople i n this story are nothing more than animals. We are told how the children are a burden and how instead ofrequiring food and clothing the rest of their lives, they will contributeto the feeding and clothing of many people. Any wakeless person wouldassume he intends to put them in factories or farms to act and not be onthe streets begging for food. We are also told that his curriculum will preventvoluntary abortions and women murdering their bastard babies. The narrator shows the call forer he is serious by producingcalculations that appear to be well thought-out and then screening us,through examples, That these children have no future.Up to this point the narrator appears to be intelligent. He isfrom the upper cla... ...eir right mind would want to beeaten? stock-still he tells us that the parents would have been in favor of it.The narrator commented on how he has no other motive than thepublic good for his soil but his country does not include everybody.Only the ri ch and those who can take care and support themselves.I think that Jonathan Swift seek to show how terrible the poorwere treated. Everyone was to busy to help them. He compared them toanimals and referred to them as creatures. I think he did this to showwhere their society was heading. The rich just did not care about whathappened to the poor and they were literally eating them out of house andhome. Jonathan Swift wrote this satirical essay so the people would atleast acknowledge that they had a problem. It is to be hoped that enoughpeople read his essay and tried to make a difference.
